This visual art exhibition invites artists working in a diverse variety of media to celebrate the camaraderie between Mexicans and Puerto Ricans in their respective native soils and in barrios throughout the U.S. Mexicans and Puerto Ricans share a very different but distinct pre-Columbian heritage, a colonial mestizaje and a rich history of migration and settlement in the US.
Esta exposición de arte visual invita a artistas que trabajan en una variedad de medios a celebrar los puntos de encuentro entre mexicanos y puertorriqueños tanto en sus países de origen como en los barrios en los que viven a través de todos los Estados Unidos. Los mexicanos y los puertorriqueños comparten una herencia precolombina diferente pero afín, el mestizaje y una historia de asentamiento por toda Norteamérica.

Centro hosts the final stop of this exhibition which illustrates the lives and contributions of three sisters: Evelina López Antonetty, the oldest, was an iconic activist and champion for social causes; Lillian López, the middle sister, was among the first Puerto Rican librarians in the New York Public Library system and the first Puerto Rican Administrator; and Elba Cabrera, the youngest, established herself as an ambassador and advocate for the arts.

Shey Rivera Ríos & Huáscar Robles dive into the debt crisis in Puerto Rico and the impact of urban development. The installation and performance, FANTASY ISLAND is an experience that -through satire- explores how tourism and consumer culture sell a “fantastical” luxury lifestyle, a tropical paradise twisting crisis into “opportunity”.

Shey Rivera Ríos y Huáscar Robles se sumergen en la crisis de la deuda en Puerto Rico y el impacto del desarrollo urbano. FANTASY ISLAND es una experiencia que -a través de la sátira- explora cómo el turismo y la cultura de consumo venden un estilo de vida “fantástico” de lujo, un paraíso tropical que transforma la crisis en “oportunidad”.
